Sony HDR-SR5C 100GB Camcorder |
Sony’s latest HDD camcorder features a whopping 100GB internal hard drive along with some real convenient features, but for a price.
Camcorders that store their media on hard drives work very nice to allow quick access to recorded content on the camera since each time you stop and start it creates a separate file, and in Sony’s case has an icon showing the first frame to identify the clip. Transferring the data to your computer is as simple as connecting any external drive and as quick as the USB interface will allow. This model also comes with a one-toch disc burn feature with supported software to burn DVD’s through your computer.
Along with that 100GB’s of storage the Sony HDR-SR5C camcorder features a wide 2.7 inch touch panel with menus on the screen to navigate settings along with viewing and managing recorded files. In this model Sony added the ability to record and zoom through the touch screen interface, which was previously only possible through manual buttons. It also features something called “Smooth Slow Recording” which increases the recording rate from 60 to 240 fields per second in order to analyze and play back things like a golf swing or a bird in flight. The slow recording can only happen in 3 second intervals, however.
The HDR-SR5C also has wide angle shooting, Dolby 5.1 audio recording, a Carl Zeiss lens, memory stick that can capture 2.1 megapixel still images instead of saving them on the hard drive and the ability to record still image shots while recording video at the same time, (if you’re coordinated enough to pull it off). This 100GB camcorder will provide anywhere from 13 hours up to 70 hours of recording and playback time without having to unload the hard drive, depending on the recording quality you choose.
The Sony HDR-SR5C is going for just under $1300 at SonyStyle, and even though you can order one now, they won’t start sending them out until July 9th.
