Sony game unit cuts jobs to keep up with competition |
Microsoft isn’t the only one looking to make some changes in order to keep up with rival Nintendo in the game console wars. Sony said last week it plans to cut some jobs in its gaming unit in the U.S. as well as Europe and Japan as it works to keep up sales of its Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 with the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has been the leader in the latest generation of game console sales for the previous four months in a row, and even beat out the previous generation Playstation 2 in April. Sony had enjoyed a decade of being the top in game console sales with the Playstation and Playstation 2 until the launch of the Nintendo Wii in November, 2006.
Kotaku reported last Wednesday that 80 to 100 employees at Sony’s Foster City headquarters had been laid off due to “multi-billion dollar losses” and increasing costs of PS3 game development. Sony Computer Entertainment announced back in April plans to cut 160 jobs in Europe along with plans to “streamline” operations in the U.S. and Japan.
According to a Reuters report, a Sony spokeswoman said the company was not sure how many of the 1,500 U.S. employees would lose their jobs, and that they are “taking another look at the company as a whole,” in order to restructure and recoup losses. Reuters also reported that, like the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony is expected to make a significant cut to the $599 price tag on the PS3.

Sony hasn’t even caught up with microsoft yet, so how in the world are they planning to catch up with nintendo? They need to get there heads out of the telescope, and focus on the current situation.
obviously the writer of slipperybrick was the one who said they were trying to catch up with nintendo.. not sony themselves.
trust me.. sony is hoping to catch nintendo and microsoft both.
however your comment = pointless.
