Your Char Awaits

Easy Glider lets you ride in styleIf you were thinking of getting a Segway at one time but decided not to then maybe you should pay heed to the Easy-Glider. This novel vehicular invention was one of the winners at this year’s Ipso BrandNew Awards category for Sport and Style. It’s a personal movement device like the Segway but with a more sportier look and a couple of other features not found on the IT. For starters the Easy-Glider comes in a variety of fun colors, has headlights so you can ride around on it at night and it has a detachable “char”, shorthand for the chariot-like trailer that you would stand on. That means you can remove the char and go inline skating or boarding using the front-end wheel unit to pull you along.

The Easy-Glider has a top speed of 12 MPH and gets you around to 9 to 16 miles of territory before its charge runs out. Battery charge time takes between 6 to 8 hours. It still won’t keep you dry if it decides to rain outdoors but you’ll look cooler than standing around in a Segway.

Wow. I keep seeing coverage of this this and can’t believe how few people have any engineering background. While it’s an “interesting” design study, the designers (and reviewers) have overlooked quite a bit when it comes to things like traction, weight shifts and wheel diameters.
I’ve only seen footage of this thing on flat, smooth and level pavement.
I seriously doubt it could perform very well going up anything but the slightest incline. In fact I doubt it could pull a 200 pound person up a normal “inch per foot” ADA ramp.
Going down a ramp might even be more hilarious.
