Get Ready for iPhone, iTunes Required |
Apple has added a few new pages to their site about the upcoming June 29th launch of the iPhone, one of which has some steps to get yourself ready for the ownership of an iPhone.
The page shows information that for the most part has been already released, including the launch date along with information on the integration of the iPhone and its feature functionalities. The page gets your ready to setup your new phone with contacts, email, calendar items and media such as photos, video and music that you can synch up with your iTunes account.
Oh, and by the way; about that iTunes account. You’re going to need one. The last paragraph mentions that in order to set up your iPhone you will need to set up an account at Apple’s iTunes store. So, if you’re planning on getting an iPhone you should also plan on setting up an iTunes account now if you haven’t already, according to Apple. The company might be all for DRM-free media but you’re going to have be a drinker of the Apple flavored kool-aid if you want to own an iPhone.

Setting up iTunes and giving your credit card number is one thing. Using that to buy tracks from Apple’s a different thing entirely.
Rip your own CDs, download free mp3s from sites like Epitonic, or buy AAC audio files off the back of a Russian truck at AllOfMP3. They’ll all play on the iPhone, as will the free Tuesday tunes you can download from the iTunes store every week.
Just because you’re in the store, doesn’t mean you HAVE to buy anything.
