Enter the Dragon

HP Pavilion HDX laptopHP has formally announced the Pavilion HDX laptop, or as the company has dubbed it, the Dragon. It certainly is a beast that demands you take notice of it: inside is an Intel 2.4GHz Centrino Duo processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT with 256 MB, 400 GB HDD, up to 4 GB of DDR RAM memory, HD DVD ROM with SuperMulti DVDA±R/RW, wireless/Bluetooth Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN network connection and 4 USB ports. Four Altec Lansing speakers and one HP Triple Bass Reflex subwoofer deliver the sounds.

But along with the serious gaming power come cool features like a dockable media remote control that pops out of the laptop if you want to carry it around. The 20.1 screen can deliver true HD 1080p resolution and its two lamps deliver what HP calls “Ultra BrightView” for extra illumination. The display also has a unique dual hinge design that lets you adjust it to the best viewing angle for your position. Weight is 15-and-a-half pounds so it’s not a heavyweight to lug around either.

HP will start shipping the new Pavilion HDX to stores near the end of June. Prices begin at $2,999.
