Sony Ericsson W880/W888 Walkman Phone ReleasedSony Ericsson today has announced the release of the new Walkman W880 model to their line up of Walkman phones available.

The W880 is the slimmest phone yet from Sony Ericsson, measuring only 9.4 mm thick (about the thickness of a CD case) housing a 1.8″ TFT display and 2 megapixel camera. This music phone also comes with a 1GB Memory Stick Micro included in the package to dispel concerns about enough internal storage space.

The mobile music phone comes with pre-packaged software for managing your audio media, including Walkman Player 2.0 and Disc2Phone to manage the transfer of music to the mobile device, as well as the playback on the gadget itself. The W880 also supports Bluetooth for streaming the playback to a wireless Bluetooth headset or stereo.

“Our Walkman phones have proven to be phenomenally attractive to our consumers – we have sold 20 million Walkman® phones since launch – and we are continuously developing the portfolio to extend their appeal,” says Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson in a press release. “The W880/W888 and W610 prove how the Walkman® phone can appeal to different lifestyles – the W880/W888 is a hi-specification device that looks every bit as good as it sounds. And the W610 Walkman® phone combines the best in both music player & digital camera, whilst first & foremost remaining a phone that’s intuitive and pleasurable to use.”

The Walkman W880 from Sony Ericsson is available in two colors, Steel Silver or Flame Black and features up to 18 hours playback along with a Flight Mode to allow turning off the phone capabilities during a flight, but still allow music playback. The phone also allows over 6 hours of talk time and over 400 hours of standby time.

The W880 supports UMTS 2100 and GSM 900/1800/1900 which is good for Europe, bad for the US. The Walkman W888 is a GSM-only model that will be available in China, and both versions will be coming out yet in the 1st quarter of this year.
