Sugarcodes is a Sweet Way to Navigate the WebSugarcodes is a website that offers quick and concise navigation of the Internet through the use of shorthand “codes”.

Sugarcodes assists you in navigating the Internet by creating codes that represent shortcuts to other web pages. Once a code has been created for a web address (URL) you can go directly to that page by typing the code. If the URL takes a parameter in the query string you can program that into your Code.

The Code for Google is simply “g”. To perform a search on Google using Sugarcodes you would type the Code for Google and then your search phrase into the Sugarcodes Input Box. Sugarcodes then translates your request into the correct URL for Google and redirects you to the search results page. If you typed “g Che Guevara” into the Sugarcodes Input box it then translates it into: http://www.google.com/search?q=Che+Guevara and sends you on your way to Google.

Other Examples of Codes

gn bush searches Google News for Bush
yt paris Hilton searches YouTube for videos on Paris Hilton
ebay notebook searches eBay for notebook
wiki url searches Wikipedia for an article on url
fn chicken searches the Food Network for chicken recipes
bofa 90210 locates Banking Centers with zipcode 90210

You don\’t need to memorize all the codes as the main search box has an auto-complete feature that fills in the matching codes as you begin typing them. You can also search for codes by typing a domain name in the Sugarcodes Input Box. Typing \’Google\’ will show you all codes related to \’Google\’. Browsing the catalog of “Usercodes” will allow you to view the codes created by other users or you can create codes for yourself if you don’t see what you need.

Sugarcodes Autocomplete Feature

There is a plugin for Firefox that allows you to add Sugarcodes as a Search Engine in the Search Bar in the upper-right corner of Firefox. Internet Explorer 7 users can add Sugarcodes as a search provider to the Internet Explorer 7 Instant Search Box. A Google gadget is available for users with a Google personalized homepage.

Where Sugarcodes really shines is the ability to code your own shortcuts. People who are fond of command-line interfaces will probably enjoy the most mileage from the site. As a search engine, Sugarcodes enables you to use virtually any search engine on the web as long as you are adept at using the codes. Taking the time to memorize some useful codes could make you a pretty salty web surfer.
