Slingbox Media Slingbox Pro Streaming Video DeviceJust can’t bear to miss your favorite television show? Have some time to kill at work? Have to go to junior’s game but you don’t want to miss the big game on TV? The Slingbox Pro from Slingbox Media may be your answer. Slingbox is a media device which connects to up 3 standard definition devices and 1 high-def device to your internet connection and thus to the world. You can control your home theater from anywhere that has an internet connection. You can watch regular cable, pre-recorded shows, on-demand movies, basically anything you can watch in your living room, you can watch on the road.

This has to be one of the greatest advances of the new millennium. I can watch TV from anywhere. It was only a matter of time before a team of Russian scientists came up with something like this. Now if there was just something on TV that was worth watching, but that’s another discussion.

The Slingbox attaches to your cable or satellite dish and has to be connected with your internet router, so you have to have a Cat 5 cable or Ethernet port someplace handy. You can get a SlingLink, a power line Ethernet adapter from Sling Media for a cool one hundred dollars if you don’t have the necessary networking prerequisites already wired up.

If you want to connect an HD device there is a catch. You have to buy a $50 HD Connect adapter for you Slingbox. The price to fully outfit this thing is starting to add up. However, if you want to take full advantage of your shiny new HD channels you will need the HD Connect component. The HD Connect is currently on back order according to the Sling Media site so you may wait awhile to get your HD TV. However, we’ve found that the video quality is acceptable with on the S-Video connection. So spending an extra $50 for the HD Connect is optional.

The Slingbox Pro has a built in tuner so the folks back at home can watch another channel while you’re watching yours. After all the wife probably doesn’t want to watch Battlestar Galactica, no matter how much you beg.

The device also has an IR output that acts like a remote control to change channels on your devices. However there is only one of these. The HD Connect provides 4 additional IR ports to control more if you need it.

The Slingpro Pro can be yours for $250 directly from the Slingbox Media store.
