Shortage Continues for Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii Game ConsolesAnalysts are reporting that the shortage of the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintindo Wii game consoles may continue up until March or even longer.

Paul-John McNealy from American Technology Research said that even though Sony has a target of shipping 1 million game consoles by year end, that could translate into 600,000 to 800,000 actual units being shipped since the 1 million included ones that are warehoused and in-transit.

Consumers are still waiting in line to get the Wii and PS3 game consoles according to reports, and the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 are expected to have increased sales as substitutes when the Wii and PS3 cannot be found. Employees at major stores in southern California have reported sporadic shipments of the game consoles which are being purchased as fast as they come in. Workers reported saying that the Wii was selling out fast even though more are being shipped.

The Nintendo Wii launched in November in the US, followed by Japan and the UK taking on the PS3 launch at about the same time in the beginning of this years console wars with the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Last night alone I counted about a half-dozen PS3s on store shelves (60GB versions) but no Wiis. I haven’t seen any 20 GB PS3s, so I’m guessing the high prices are driving people from buying the PS3s.

  5. concertboy Says:

In the local Walmart yesterday, they had 15 PS3′s and more in the back, but no Wii’s. Went to Best Buy and it was completely full of people with Christmas cash to spend, however, there were 6 PS3′s on the shelf and no one wanted one, of course there were no Wiis.
